Preakness probabilities will probably favor Animal Kingdom on Saturday, May 21st in the 136th racing of the preakness stakes.

The Preakness is the 2nd contest in mount racing’s Triple Crown and the shortest of the three contests. Get ready for Preakness gambling by starting an account at the sportsbook.

Preakness probabilities have been in existence since 1873 and the contest has been run every year aside from two years in the late 1800′s. The contest was 1st run at a mile and a half but that was rapidly modified to a mile and 4th.

The contest then was run at a mile and a quarter, a mile and a 16th, a mile and 70 yards, one mile, a mile and an 8th and the current mile and 3/16th. The largest crowd in Preakness gambling was in 2001 when 104,454 were in attendance at Pimlico. The all-time foremost trainer was Robert W. Walden with 7 wins whereas jockey Eddie Arcaro had 6 wins.

When you get ready for Preakness handicapping you want to remember that the top post is number six whereas the #4 is 2nd top. The rail is not the kiss of death in the Preakness that it’s in the Derby as quite a few horses have won from the rail although several of those wins were early in the race’s history.

In contrast to the Derby, favorites do very well in the Preakness. In fact, favorites win the Preakness close to half the time. Long shots basically do not do well in the Preakness so don’t expect to see the big payoffs that you saw in the Derby. The longest shot to ever win the Preakness was Master Derby at 23-1.

Big name horses have won the Preakness the last three years. A year ago it was Lookin at Lucky, in 2008 it was Rachel Alexandra and in 2007 it was Curlin. This year the favorite in Preakness probabilities will be Animal Kingdom who is arriving from a quality win in the Derby.

Three years ago Big Brown won the Preakness after winning the Derby but the mount failed in the Belmont. There hasn’t been a Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978. Animal Kingdom will attempt to win the Preakness on Saturday, May 21st and stay alive for mount racing’s Triple Crown.
